What is outpatient treatment?

Many of them define outpatient care as medical care that does not require hospitalization overnight. This includes most types of health care, such as physician visits, laboratory tests and sonograms. Outpatient treatment may also obtain this definition or more specifically refer to certain types of treatment procedures and rehabilitation services.

Confusion may exist about where outpatient treatment occurs. The term outpatient does not mean that you cannot get a hospital service. Many people have outpatient treatment or care in large hospital environments, although they may also have such care in smaller environments, centers of cardiac care, surgical centers, outpatient care facilities, urgent care centers or even doctors. The real difference is what happens after rendering treatment. Bed treatment means that a person will stay in the hospital at least overnight. Outpatient care means they will go home as soon as they recover from the medical care provided.
