The first dolls of the company had fabric bodies with celluloid heads, arms and legs. These dolls were the finest and those that still exist are very valuable. At the beginning of the 20th century, celluloid was improved and companies began to produce dolls from celluloid. Many of them had limbs that could move and open and closed chip. Some were as small as 1 inch (2.5 cm), while some Japanese dolls came up to 30 inches (76 cm). Most of them allK was on the smaller side because the celluloid was very light and larger dolls were harder to produce.
At the age of 40. The United States banned the use of celluloid for toys because it was found to be highly flammable. However, celluloid was still used in many European countries and some dolls were still produced in Eastern Europe under 90. British companies also created a doll of cellulose acetate, which was safer and less flammable.
Thedolls were not very durable and would deteriorate when moisture or humidity were exposed. They would often burst in high humidity and would be yellow when they aged. The dolls also deepened and broke quite easily.
For these reasons, many Dolls have not survived the time of time, even if they can still be found. Aspiring doll collectors can usually find these dolls at a reasonable price. Blacker dolls in very good condition can be muchmore expensive.
Vintage celluloid dolls need special care. They should be kept away from direct sunlight and should be stored or displayed in an area with low humidity. Cleaning these dolls is almost impossible because they cannot come into contact with water. It is difficult to repair dolls that have become damaged, and this also significantly reduces their value.
