What are Mickey Mouse Boots?
first issued to the American GIS during the Korean War, Mickey Mouse Boots are designed to fight and protected from water and extreme cold. The interior is lined with wool and several layers of rubber. Their most distinguishable features are their giant size and pure white color. The soldiers reminded themselves of the iconic cartoon and joked that they were in Mickey Mouse shoes. The rubber was colored white to camouflage with snow. They were also white, but not so strong or durable - they were designed as an outer layer for shoes. Shoepacs did not happen at the bitter cold of the 1951 winter in Korea, when temperatures dropped far below their diameter and the army tents were modest protection. At a time when men wore sleeping bags during the day to prevent freezing, Mickey Mouse shoes were highly valued as a huge improvement compared to the protection of ordinary -silly shoes covered in Shoepacs.
Because a rubber shoe that reached halfway byThe calf was not ventilated, the wearer's sweat quickly gathered. Men constantly changed socks and dried wet socks between layers of clothing. This was barely uncomfortable because of how their legs remained. The shoes prevented frostbite even at -20 or –30 degrees Fahrenheit (-29 to -34 Celsius); The thin layer of air trapped between two rubber layers acts as a strong insulator. The bigger problem was that the weight and most shoes of Mickey Mouse adversely affected man's mobility and were not comfortable for long treks.
Many generations of the army continue to wear these shoes, also called "M&M". They are now available in black, with pressure valves, special moisture detachments and rating to amazing-60 degrees Fahrenheit (-51celsia). Through military excess sources, the average outdoor adventurer can buy an authentic edition of Gi Mickey Mouse Boots. Backpackers, fishermen or campers exposed to ice, snow and water can enjoy their sport without fear of frozen PRhundreds.
