What are swarm thermites?
wings thermites are referred to as swarmers . Swarming thermites have a body divided into two parts with four wings of the same length. Swarmers are specialized members of Termitian colonies to promote a species. They are referred to as rolls because they move and act as one entity and quickly and efficiently create new colonies. There are three known types of swarm termites: underground, formosan and dry wood.
Underground thermites are the most common thermites in North America. This termit feeds on soil, cotton, paper, trees, brushes and wood roots. While underground termites have an average colony size of 30 to 40 thousand members, it is not unusual to find colonies as large as 5 million. During the spring months, swarms appear to expand and recover. The standard underground swarm of thermit is 1/4 (6.35 cm) to 3/8 (9.52 cm) long thumb and black to light yellow coal.
Formosan thermites come from Formosa on Tai -wan and were transported to the connectedStates where they thrive in warm, humid conditions of the south. This species is also known as Super Termites, as they can consume a pound (0.45 kg) every day. When the group swarms move, they create a nest in any hollow space in your home. The standard colonies will contain approximately 70,000 swarm termites, each laying 15 to 30 eggs a day. The standard formosan termit has 1/2 inches (1.27 cm) long, yellowish brown in color and covered with small hairs.
dry wood thermites are thus named because they live and benefit in dry wood. This type of thermit can be found in older wooden furniture, wooden floor and behind plasterboard, where they feed on the pins of the house. Termite colonies in dry wood are often much smaller than other types of termites, but there may be more large intestine in one house. Swarmers Drywood differs in color from dark brown to light yellowish tan, with clean or smoky gray wings. Fully adult swarm on dry wood is approximately 7/16thumbs (1.1 cm) long.
As with all types of termites, prevention is the best method of checking termites. This is particularly true of these three species, due to the amount of swarm termites on the colony and the speed at which they multiply. Use treated wood in the construction of new houses and bait practicing in existing structures. Once contamination occurs, it is very difficult and costly to stop.
