What are the different sizes of gravel?

The size of the gravel may vary dramatically and is a diameter of 1/8 inches (0.32 centimeters), up to 4 inches (10.16 centimeters) in diameter. Although these different types of gravel may be quite different, all serve important functions. Size #10 Gravel is usually considered to be the smallest of all gravel sizes and is generally used as a base in the pavement. On the other hand, gravel size #57 is used in creating retaining walls. Size No. 1 gravel is the largest of all gravel sizes and is used primarily as a form of decoration in yards and parks.

The smallest of all gravel sizes is size #10, which is also commonly known as Screenings Gravel. This gravel is usually about 1/8 inch (0.32 centimeters) on average, so it is similar to the appearance of the rough sand. As a basis for bricks, paved stones and other similar objects are often used as a basis for bricks, cobbled stones. In some cases it can also be packed in slots created when other, larger, larger stones are stacked, soThey help in prevention of slip. Size #10 gravel can be made of different larger stones, but most often it is made of slag or limestone.

Size #57 is another of the more popular gravel sizes. This particular gravel size is 3/4 inches in diameter (1.9 centimeters) up to 1 inches (2.54 centimeters) on average. This gravel is often used for paved walks or driveways, can be browsed and driven by relative ease. In addition, gravel size #57 is commonly mixed with size #10 for use as a base for retaining walls, bricks and other types of paving, for example for filling large holes. Although size #57 apparently serves many purposes, it usually avoids use in areas that are prone to mudding.

Unlike gravel size #10 and #57, gravel is known as size #1 relatively large. Usually this gravel is on average from 2.5 inches (6.35 centimeETRY) to 4 inches (10.16 centimeters). Size 1 gravel may be difficult to work because it cannot be discarded in general and instead must be moved individually, stone with stone. As with other types of very large gravel, size #1 is primarily used as decoration and can be found in yards, gardens or even parks. This type of stone is usually available in a washed gravel, slag or limestone, although other materials may be available in some cases.
