What are the different types of bamboo plants?

There are more than 1,450 bamboo plant species. There are two basic types of them: those that spread and those that clump. The spread of bamboo plants, also called a running bamboo, covers any distance of up to 100 feet (30.5 m) in a relatively short period of time. However, cluster bamboo plants remain firmly and add only a few stems around the edge every few months, usually grow 1-3 inches (2.54-7.62 cm) per year.

Several types of bamboo cluster are the Chinese mountain, umbrella, Timor Black, Fountain, White Dragon and Borinda. Several types of bamboo run are Golden Grove, Kuma, Pygmy, Yellow Grove, Pitt White and Golden Square. In addition to these two groups, bamboo plants are difficult to classify because they can live almost anywhere and take many forms, colors and niches in the environment. Growth patterns are the only black and white properties of bamboo plants. The rest of the plant 'seems that many forms differ more on continues than in categories.

The main difference between running and clusing bamboo has to do with their relevant rhizomes. Oddeomes are stems that flow into the ground and shoot the roots down from the nodes found in the classic structure of the bamboo plant. These nodes are also a source of reproduction, as they also shoot new stems to the surface to create a stem of new bamboo plants. Bamboo running must have longer rhizomes that shoot new stems quickly and often, while clustering bamboo plants has shorter, slower and generally less active rhizomes.

One can still push the bamboo running in the yard without the risk that the bamboo has taken over the backyard - and the neighboring court - using the rhizome barrier. It usually consists of a plastic lining that is buried by 30 inches (76.2 cm) deep, which completely surrounds thebambus field. This will prevent rhizomes from growth underground throughout the area in which a person wants bamboo plants.

Another, less defined way to categorize bambooSet plants into types is a temperature at which each plant thrives: hot or cold. Several species that grow best in hot weather are Alphonse Karr, Golden Bohays, Fernleaf and Midori Green. Several species that grow best in cold weather are Eisenach, Flavescens inversa, Holochrysa and Koi. Interior bamboo plants are those that have sufficiently short root systems to be grown in pots and can therefore be grown inside. These include ventricosa, Vittata, Koi and Tsuboi.
