What are the different types of modern calligraphy?

Calligraphy, which comes from Greek, which means "beautiful writing", extends to almost the earlier days of language in cultures around the world. In addition to being simply a fantastic way of writing, calligraphy is often considered a highly advanced artistic form and even a type of meditation. Modern caligraphy styles include various Latin or Roman, East Asian and Islamic or Arab scripts.

Most modern calligraphy in the western hemisphere is based on the Latin alphabet. Modern Gothic style has evolved from medieval illuminated manuscripts and contains large, highly complicated capital letters. It often has strong, bold lines and right angles. Italing calligraphy tends to have easier elegance. Its lines vary in thickness and are generally oblique to the right, with consequences that are higher than the capitals.

In Western society, some come to consider graffiti as a form of modern calligraphy. Graffiti, which originated as an illegal street art, has developed its own conventionCe and styles of fonts that many consider to be creative and beautiful. Many artists try to legitimize graffiti as an artistic form of painting on canvas or public places with the consent of the local administration.

Calligraphy is an integral part of almost all East Asian arts, and complicated characters are often drawn on ceramics, screens or other pieces. Chinese and Japanese calligraphy is taught in schools as a form of communication and art. Especially among the Buddhists of certain sections, modern calligraphy can be considered a metaphysical practice. Reading and writing calligraphic scripts are considered to be a form of meditation that combines contemporary and ancient practices of art.

Modern Islamic Styles of Calligraphy also have a rich tradition. Early Islamic Law banned art that depicted living organisms, especially by the artists, and artists turned to the written word as an art medium. Passages from the Qur'an are often a source material for Islamic calligraphy.
