Using some form of bait, such as seed or nuts, a heavy rock can be placed just above the bait and a rock held in place using sticks that are cut at the ends to fit each other. When the bird goes after the bait, the rock usually falls on it, which either kills it or holds it on the spot until it can be removed from the area.
