What are the effects of El nino?
The effects of southern oscillation El Niño, Enso or El Niño include stronger eastern winds that bring more precipitation, storms and floods during the summer months, usually followed by unusually warm and dry winters. Countries relying on agriculture or fishing for a living may suffer losses during El Niño due to extreme weather and dying of fish or moving to colder areas. Due to the stronger east wind created by El Niñem, the hurricane season in North America is often less serious. Long periods of weather El Niño cause a shift in agriculture and fishing industry, especially in countries such as Peru. Crops and local fish may suffer from a sudden change in weather pattern. They are in South America. Lower North America is experiencing a wetter winner because it lies closer to the equator, the most affected region in the Pacific Ocean. Strong winds east to the west reduce the hurricane season for most North America. In Australia, however, there are usually dry conditions and can lead to an increased number of fires.
El Niño occurs when the tropical eastern regions of the Pacific Ocean become warmer than usual than usual by 0.9 degrees Fahrenheit (0.5 degrees Celsius) or higher, causing stronger winds coming from the east and lower air pressure above the ocean. This change in air temperature and air pressure causes ocean water to rise higher than usual. When the opposite effect occurs - the water temperature drops instead of the climb - it is known as La Niña.
