What are the most common exotic plants?

African purple, bromeliade, zebra plant, elephant ear and orchid are just a few plants that are commonly grown as internal exotic plants. These are plants that come from Africa, Central and South America and will not tolerate cold weather. In most climate it must be grown inside. Fortunately, most are easy to grow and require little special care. Although flowers look like violets, they are actually a member of the Gesneriaceae family. If flowers are removed, these plants will be a flower throughout the year. In nature, African violets grow in hot jungles and should be kept in a relatively humid environment. They are one of the simplest plants that spread, and the cut leaves placed in the soil quickly take root and grow into a new plant.

Bromeliad can be the most striking flowering house, with long or short pointed flowers in many different colors. The leaves are also colored and can be green, gold or dark red. Some kinds of bromeliads grow on13 feet (4 m) high, even if they can be cut into a high plant. However, many varieties are shorter and more suitable for the internal environment. These plants are unusual in that they do not require soil growth and actually grow on other plants.

zebra plants are common exotic plants grown for their large, shiny green leaves that are nutrients of strong white stripes. These plants produce bright yellow floral clouds in their centers, but they only last a day or two. Plants of zebras grow in rainforests and require the humid air to prosper. They do best when they are slightly tied on the pot and should be planted in a container that is a little too small.

Elephantic ear plants are grown for their ornamental, heart -shaped heart that can grow up to 3 feet (1 m) in length. The plants themselves can reach up to 8 feet (2.4 m), although they tend to remain smaller when they are grown inside. ATThe elephant requires acidic soil and should be outside of direct sunlight. Unlike most other exotic plants in the household, an elephant in wetlands grows and can tolerate waterlogged soil. This plant is not a good choice for those who often forget to water their plants because they will die if allowed to dry.

For a more experienced gardener or those looking for a challenge, orchids can pay off. These fine exotic plants with high maintenance have problems with stunning flowers that are out of comparison. There are thousands of different types in all colors and sizes. Orchids require very high humidity and must often be mixed. These plants also require a night temperature that is at least 10 degrees cooler than a day to be successful.
