What are the most common corn pests?

corn is a type of grain that belongs to Poaceae - formerly called the Gramineae family - grass. In the United States and many other English -speaking countries, corn is called corn. Many countries, including the US, cultivate corn as a source of food. One of the challenges of growing these crops is the presence of corn pests. Some of the most common insects that cause corn damage are corn ears, trace drill, rootworm and army worms. The larvae often have green, yellow or black. All ears larvae have black stripes that run down the length of the larvae. This type of pest is original in North America and will feed on many plants except corn. Ear tunnel larvae directly into the ears of corn. This type of pest often consumes the cores of corn from the tip to the ears and completely destroys the edible part of the corn plant. Ear larvae are widespread and are considered one of the most destructive pests of corn in the United States.

Insects on Stalk Borera are larvae papaipema nebris MOTH. These maize pests commonly occur in the Eastern United States and Canada. The larvae of the young Stalka are dark purple or black and have white stripes at both ends. These specific pests enter the corn either at the base or at the top of the plant, and the tunnel to the center of the stem. This tunneling can seriously damage the corn stems and completely kill small corn plants.

Rootworm, also called Western Corn Rootworm, is a pest found on the American Midwest. Unlike the previous two maize pests, Rootworm is not a descendant of the moth, but the beetle is known as Diabrotica Virgifer Virgifer. These pests are usually off-white and have dark red or brown heads. Rootworm larvae attack the roots of corn plants. This can weaken the plant and cause the cores to become insufficiently developed and inedible.

Armyworm is a larva pseudaletia UnipUncta . Young army worms larvae have a light green color with longitudinal stripes. This pest is most common in the states of Arizona, New Mexico and California. This is also common in Canada, west of the rocky mountains. Army worms maize attack and consume corn leaves and can weaken or kill crops.
