What are wooden windows?
All parts of the window except the glass itself can be made of different materials. The windows are available from vinyl, glass fibers, wooden compounds and aluminum. Even with the variety of new materials available, wooden windows remain an excellent choice. Sometimes house owners are confused with all terminology associated with wooden windows.
JAMB is a wooden area that fits between the window and the building. The lower part of JAMB, a part that is parallel to the floor, is a window sill. When part of the window sill extends into the room, it is correctly called stool, but is usually called the parapped. JAMB is attached to the wall of the building. JAMB is rarely replaced.
The wing is part of the wooden windows that are actually attached to the glass. If the window is replaced, the wings and glass it contains will be removed. The vertical parts of the wing are Stiles. The horizontal parts of the wing are rails. Double wood W.indows has two wings and upper and lower. The upper wing can slip down to open but usually with the bottomThe wing slips up to open. In windows with double suspended wood, the lower rails of the upper wing and the upper rails of the lower wing overlap when the windows are closed. Overlapping rails are called control rails or rails.
pieces of glass in wooden windows are called boards or lights, sometimes spell -spec long. In the past, some combinations of lights were common, for example twelve over twelve for two wings of a double wooden window. Thin strips of wood called muntins hold the board in place. This layout of the boards is so attractive that today muntiny is sometimes applied decoratively to both surfaces of a large window. These windows are formally called simulated split lights or SDL.
WindowsWooden windows are an environmentally friendly choice when the wood grown and harvested. Properly installed and maintained wooden windows do not allow any largerHeat losses than vinyl or aluminum windows provided that the same glass quality is used. Wooden windows do not pose any threat to human health, unlike PVC or vinyl, which can emit toxic by -products.
