What is Batfish?

Several fish types are referred to as Batfish, including members of the Ogcocephalidae or Ephippidae families, along with the California Batfish or Stingray. The type of fish discussed is usually clear from context. While all these fish share the common feature that they have flattened bodies, similarities end. These batfists like salt water and find them all over the world. Their bodies are compressed laterally, they seem to be flattened and in the shape of an arrow. Characteristic fins on the underside of their bodies use fish to walk along the ocean bottom. To capture the prey they use chemical bait that attracts other fish. The harsh skin of the batfish allows him to mask against sand and sediments and get prey to think that there is no danger. Divers are sometimes frightened when they cancel hidden fish on the bottom of the ocean.

EPHIPPIDAE, sometimes called reeffishes reefs, are also found in many areas of the world. They have extremely long and very striking fins that cause them to be superficially similar to bats in the profile. Their bodies differ from silver to brown, with striing in other tones such as orange and gray. Some Batfish is wrong with Angelfish because they look similar but not related. These fish are held by some experienced aquarists of salt water. They can be demanding on and care for and be monitored carefully when they are seated in a new environment.

Some pet stores carry these Batfish or order them according to a special application. They are fine fish that keep them in the sub -trees because of their shyness, because they can be nervous about eating while they are watching people. They are quite visually striking and when people manage to keep healthy, they can be the aquarium.

Finally Myliobatis californicus or California Batfish lives in the eastern areas of the Pacific Ocean. This fish is a beam that feeds on small organisms aso are crustaceans near the ocean bottom. Although California Batfish has stabbings, these fish are not very dangerous and employ their defensive equipment only when they feel threatened or corners. People sometimes meet them in swimming and diving from the coast of California and Oregon.
