What is a blind snake?
blind snakes share many characteristics of common snakes and earthworms, but are classified as a snake type. You can find them in countries around the world, from the United States to the Philippines. This type of snake tends to live deep underground and is almost completely blind. They rarely encounter people because of their natural habitats, but they are not poisonous. Some blind snakes lie eggs, while others have live birth, but reproductive methods of many blind snakes are not known. It is known that some species live near the nests of ants and termites, but scientists are not sure exactly what they eat. The larva of ants and termites seem likely, not if the ants and termites themselves.
The appearance of a blind snake may vary significantly from one to the other. Their possible colors include brown, blue and gray. Blind snakes are well known for their shiny scales and round bodies that are very similar to the earth. In addition, the eyes are not useful when borrowing underground so blind snakes usually have eyes that can only detecto behind the light. Finally, the tail and the head of the body are dull - similar to the body of the worm.
There are three families of blind snake, with several hundred species between them. Anomalepididae is a family of blind snakes who come from Central and South America. While snakes are usually found in the southern parts of the continent, some genera sometimes find the way north. As the smallest family of blind snakes, four genera and 15 species of blind snake are recognized.
Typhlopidae is another family of a blind snake, which is located in the tropical areas of America, Asia and all over Australia. At least six families and 200 species fall into this category. This type of blind snake is characterized by its tail on a scale that can use against attackers. It is also known that the snake releases resistance and is frantically circling when it is captured from its burrow. However, scientists know a little more about this particular family than the foundations.
Family LeptotyPhlopidae includes téměř 90 species of snake into two genera. Like the blind snakes of the Tyhlopidae family, these snakes are found in America and Asia. This family contains Threadsnake Barbados, which is considered the smallest snake in the world 4 inches (10 cm).
