What is the block print?

Print block is a piece of printed material made using block printing technique. In the block print, the printer carve the design to be printed into a solid block, similar to the stamp. The design may include text or be purely visual and the block can be used on paper or textiles. Block press is an ancient press technique and numerous examples of historical block prints can be found in the historical records of Europe and Asia. These seals are the first known examples of solid design on an element that is designed to be converted through another element, transmitting design. The cylinder seals were made of carved stone or clay, but the printers began to switch to wood because it was easy to handle and cut them. Woodblock prints, also called woodcuts, dominated by a nascent publishing house for hundreds of years. The engraving is a descendant of the print, even if the technique of creating a block with which it is to print is different.

Many famous artists like Hiroshige worked in a block press medium. Block prints were also used to produce books and other printed materials. The printers quickly learned how to create multicolored block prints, using blocks with different patterns on them that could be used to overlap. Many modern artists produce linoleum printing with linoleum carving and can be easily made at home. Linoleum designed for linoleum cuts can be found in many art stores, along with the tools with which it carve them. With the addition of ink, cylinder and paper, the artist is ready to start printing, limited only by imagination.
