What is a parrot with a blue head?

standing 11 inches (about 28 cm) tall, blue -headed parrot is easily recognizable with bright blue head and neck. The parrot, originally from Central and South America, weighs 8 to 12 oz (about 182 to 252 g) and has a life of 25 to 60 years. Although they are popular as pets, a blue -head parrot is not as loquacious as other types of parrots.

scientifically known as Pionus menstruus, a blue -head parrot contains green feathers on most of his bodies with red feathers on his neck and under the tail. Until they reach the age of one, parrots have very little blue feathers and are mostly green colors. There are only blue young parrots on the forehead. At the age of three, birds reach full of color maturation.

Birds are common in humid areas in Colombia, Eastern Ecuador, Eastern Peru, South and Central Brazil and Northern Bolivia, as well as in Trinidad. The blue -head parrot is located in hollow limbs and tree cavities of 2,000 feet (about 600 m) in the forests. It was known that some parrots live up to 5,000 feet (about 1,500m) in open areas. Parrots often travel in flocks up to 400 during the breeding season to feed places such as sets and cornfields. The diet with a blue head consists of seeds, berries, corn and bananas.

In spring, usually around May, parrots blue heads begin to behave. The woman puts up to three to five white eggs. Incubation of eggs takes less than a month. After nine weeks, young people are able to fly. The chickens leave the nest about two months after birth.

The blue head parrot has some unique features. When the bird scares or wakes up, it makes a loud sound that, like a person with asthma. When the danger is removed, it stops in breath. In addition, the parrot has a distinctive odor.

As pets are parrots with blue -headed kind creatures and very friendly around people. Birds rarely bite. The species is generally obedient and can be taughtwhich simple tricks. Male parrots often associate with one person and guard their owner in front of apparent dangers. Birds are also capable of limited vocabulary of up to 20 words.
