What is the jellyfish?

Box Medusa, Scientific name chironex fleckeri , is an extremely poisonous marine creature of invertebrates also known as sea wasp or naval Stinger. The jellyfish food is incredibly painful and in many cases it can be fatal. It is located throughout the Indo-Pacific region, especially in waters outside North Australia, and the active season, when it is most likely sting, can last from October to May. It has the shape of the type of bell or cube, a transparent shade of light blue and many tentacles. It is carnivorous, ie feeding with small crustaceans and fish and usually live for about one year. Its tentacles are covered with small stinging cells called nestatocysts; When stabbing, these cells often remain glued to the victim. The sting causes pain that can be so serious that it can leave the victim in shock and unscathed move or swim. Venom also affects the heart, nerves and skin that potentially causes cardiac arrest, the persistent pain that lasts for weeks, and serious scarring and skin damage.

When an individual is hit by a jellyfish box, immediate medical care is required. It is important to stop the effect of stinging cells before removing the tentacle by pouring vinegar on them for at least 30 seconds. Many cases also require antivenings available in any hospital in areas where jellyfish are found. The smallest cases can be treated with ice, painkillers and antihistamine drugs, but it is necessary to be evaluated by a physician to determine the appropriate treatment.

originating from the Indo-Pacific region, the box jellyfish is located throughout the area, especially in tropical waters outside North Australia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Papua Nová Guinea. They tend to stay in shallow coastal waters or mouth, streams and mouths of the river. The active “stabbing season” usually extends from October to May, although it was known that it also occurred in June, July and August.

box jellyfish has moree defined shape than many other species, often similar to a cube or a bell with four sides. The hoods occur in bundles of about 15 in each corner a body of a similar box. It can grow up to 10 feet (3 m) including the tentacle and the body is transparent with pale blue color. On each side there are cluster eyes that allow it to be seen, and is also able to move with water rather than grinding.

As a carnivore, jellyfish is feeding small crustaceans and fish. Before eating, she scores her prey to immobilize her, which prevents damage to the tentacle in combat. Typical lifetime is about a year, with adults emerging at the end of the summer and provoking eggs that attach to the rocks near the mouth of the river. In the spring, they hatch into a small jellyfish and are washed up to the sea during the summer season.
