What is a brown quail?

The quail is a relatively tiny bird that spends most of the time on the ground. The color varies in a wide range of brownish shades from reddish -brown to lighter sand brown. The body of the bird tends to be round and somewhat plump with short legs and dark beak. The brown quail is found primarily in Australia and Tasmania, but in New Zealand, New Guinea and Indonesia are also populations.
