What is Calla Lily?
Calla Lily, also known as Zantedeschia or Arum Lily, is a herbal, permanent plant dating back to South Africa. Thanks to its large, beautiful flowering it is a very popular house plant and is also used in many floral arrangements. It is actually part of the Araceae Family , and not the Family liliaceae , which is the one that the real lily belongs to. It grows from a bulb and can reach one to three feet (0.3 to 0.9 m). The plant produces striking trumpet flowers. Actually, this is not a flower, but rather a leaf called spathe . The real floral part of the plant is a yellow or orange tip in the middle of Spathe. The plant prefers a full sun or partial shadow and moist but well -drained soil. Calla lilies can be grown outside in a tropical environment. The smaller diversity of Calla Lily grows to maximum traces (0.6 m) high and produces much smaller flowers, which are usually referred to as minis .
The most common color for Spathe Calla Lily is white, but other varieties include yellow, orange, pink or purple, red, green and black. Because they symbolize things such as rebirth and purity, white lilies Calla are often seen in wedding bouquets, Easter flower arrangements and funeral flowers. Green Lilies Calla are the most precious variety and black flowers are really very deep shade of purple.
The name Calla Lily is actually an incorrect name, because the plant does not belong to the Lily family at all. With house plants such as Caladium and Philodendron, it really has more in common. This is also very closely related to Skunk's cabbage.
Many artists have found that Calla Lily is a favorable object. For example, the painter Georgia O'Keefe used a flower so Freqve became known as Lady of Lilies . Diego Rivera was also known for his art with flower.
All parts of this plant are for the cellVerification and animals extremely toxic due to a component in a plant called oxalic acid . Ingestion of any part of it can cause burning and swelling of the mouth and neck, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and eye irritation. As with many poisonous plants, the roots are the most dangerous components.
