What is a cat flea allergy?
cat fleas can cause allergic reactions in cats and other animals such as humans or dogs. Flea injures the compounds into the skin of the cat when it bites, and the immune system of the cat reacts to these compounds. Allergy to cat flea causes itching cats and scratches and affects the condition of the skin. Allergy is technically known as dermatitis allergy to flea (FAD).
CTENOCEPHALIDES Felis is an example of cat fleas. According to Merck veterinary manual, c. felis is the most common cause of fleas in cats and dogs in North America. People may also occur allergy to cat flea. Not every cat, dog or man after bites show allergy to flea cats.
When the flea bites the cat, it injures its own spit into bites. This saliva contains compounds on which the immune system focuses and responds. Bite stimulates the production of immunoglobulin E (IgE) and IgD antibodies that are specific to the TBlecha AntigeNů. It also creates a localized inflammatory reaction.
An animal that is constantly bitten by fleas can have a low level of immune response, leading to the absence of an allergic reaction, and it can be in the case of cats. An animal, which is sometimes bitten only by cat fleas, can show a much higher response of the immune system on each bit. According to Merck veterinary manual may be attempted by animal fleas to show three different types of allergic reactions.
The immune system can respond immediately and there is an allergic reaction after 15 minutes. Alternatively, one or two days can react, known as a delayed reaction. In some cases, immediate and delayed reactions may occur. This can mechanism of how allergy to cat flea works in felines.
The symptoms of dermatitis allergy to flea depend on the CNA individual. Neck, face and back are notthe more commonly affected areas. There the skin will be bumpy and can be praised. Cats hair can also fall out in patch and the owner can see areas of the skin that are scratched by the cat itself.
FAD treatment is through insecticides or insect growth regulators. These can be applied directly to the skin, injected or administered orally. Since fleas may be present in many stages of life cycle, treatment must either remain active for a long time or be repeatedly applied. It may also be necessary to treat the environment to remove the infection reservoir.
