What is the crown of the chimney?
Crown of the chimneys does exactly as its name suggests: culminates from the upper end of the chimney. Another name for the Komín crown is the chimney. It is one of the many basic parts of the chimneys, but few people realize that its main purpose is to act as a protective roof or chimney cap, which protects the structural elements of the chimney from the weather deterioration. This is important because in many cases the mortar is naturally weaker in the upper part of the chimney and will slowly disintegrate if it is exposed to repeated rain and snow.
Since the good crown of chimneys is vital for the longevity of the chimney itself, homeowners should know how to see bad and good crowns when buying a house with a connected chimney. The most basic thing to watch is how far the chimney of the crown is expanding. The crown should reach far beyond the edges of the chimney walls, preferably 2 to 2.5 inches (5 to 6.35 cm), with a lip that is known, surprisingly, like a "kerf". The Kerfs act as miniature rains, andwould prevent water from rolling to the underside of the crown and finding the way to the chimney.
To have all the right elements on a properly built crown crown can give the chimney sufficiently structural integrity to withstand a hundred years. One of these elements is called "blinking" and although it is not technically part of the crown crown itself, all good crowns are conventionally installed next to flashing to provide additional security. Milks can be made of copper or steel. They look like a simple metal group located directly below the crown crown and divert any excess water that could reach the upper chimney of the bricks despite the protection of the kerfs.
When a crown of chimneys is added to the house, the house owner should make sure it is made of the right materials. Masons sometimes build a crown that is not on the same level, and if the house owner of the non -hazard, eventually pays just to make the next nYears of years quickly worsened the chimney. The number one rule is never to use bricks. The whole reason for the spectrum crown is that the mortar is not resistant to the weather, so if the Mason uses mortar and bricks to construct the crown, it should be a warning sign. Instead, choose metal, stone or concrete slabs.
