What is the Chinese water dragon?
The Chinese water dragon is a type of Asian lizard, which is often kept in captivity as an exotic pet. Its scientific name is Physignathus cocincinus and is also known as the Asian water dragon, Thai water dragon or green water dragon. Sometimes it is confused with a similar species, Physignathus cocincinus, which is often called the Eastern water dragon or the Australian water dragon. The most important feature of the Chinese water dragon is its size up to 3 feet (92 cm) for adult men. Much of this length consists of a pointed tail, which is used for balance when swimming, climbing and running, as well as for self -defense.
In the wild, the Chinese water dragon is located near streams and lakes in parts of Asia's mainland, including Vietnam, Cambodia, South China and Thailand. This lizard is a daily creature, which means it is active during the day and spends most of the time outside the ground in plants or trees. If it is endangered by a predator, the Chinese water dragon may fall into the water and swim away or stay under the water surface pof approximately 25 minutes without damage.
While Chinese water dragons tend to be primarily green in color, sometimes they have colorful signs on the neck that can be orange, pink, peach or yellow. The side of their bodies may contain oblique turquoise or light green stripes. Their tails are usually partially striped with brown and green vertical stripes. They have strong legs for climbing and jumping and can even run in an erect manner using only the rear legs. These lizards have strong claws with points sharply on the needle.
Men are generally larger than women and their heads show a more pronounced shape of the triangle. Both sexes contain a small pineal gland or a photo -sensitive area between the eyes, which is assumed that it helps to regulate body temperature and commission them from predators assessing the nuances of available light. Chinese water dragons tend to live between 10 and 20 years of captivity when you take good care of it. As exotic pets, they are generally obedient and they seem to like. They could show fun behavior such as climbing on branches or furniture, diving into water puddles or inflating their neck.
