What is Cobra Lily?
Cobra Lily or California, the scientific name Darlingtonia Californica , is a carnivorous plant that acquires some of its nutrients by passive capture and eating of arthropods and insects. He is a lonely member of the Darlingtonia family in the Sarraceniaceae family. Lily Cobra has tubular rolled leaves that resemble the head of the cobra and even seem to look like a snake language. He was discovered in 1841 at Mount Shasta by botanist William D. Bracenridge and benefits in a humid environment. Although the soil may be poor in nutrients, Lily Cobra has adapted to increase its nitrogen requirements with carnivorous nutrition. In order to live for a long time, it requires a period of calm weather lasting from three to five months, during which all growth stops. The warmer weather in the spring will revive Lily Cobra to live and will continue to grow in the summer months.
The two main groups of carnivorous plants are those with active traps and those with passive traps. Cobra lily has a passive trap that lures in inkfrom to its pitcher and then uses enzymes produced by the plant to digest its prey. Flytrap Venus is an example of an active trap plant that uses rapid movement to combine its blades together to capture its prey.
Cobra not only attracts and captures its prey into its tubular leaves, but also carefully hides the output by the undulating small opening to the underside and then offering numerous translucent fake exits in its leaves. Insects are tired of trying to leave the translucent false and dive down into the trap. The tiny hair was directed down and the slippery walls prevent the prey to be combined and escaped. Insects are absorbed in the pool of liquid digestive enzyme at the base of the leaf.
irrigation is very important in maintaining a pitcher in California. Since the natural habitat of the pitcher is a pitcher, a cold environment, it is essential for the plant to never completely interfere. AltogetherPlants can produce many side shoots that can eventually become a large cluster. It is not wise to separate the cluster due to the sensitivity of the root system. The removal of the cluster can expose the lily Cobra so that it is susceptible to fungal attacks and diseases and could force the plant to go to shock.
