What is the door harp?

The harp door is a flat, hollow box with suspended balls gently jumping from chains that are tuned to different tones. These frequently decorated ornaments can include only three or as much as dozen or more chains, either simple or complicated non -sounds that change with the breeze when it is located away from home. When placing on the inside, as is traditional, the harp of doors for the inhabitants will be significant noise whenever the door is open and closed.

The door of the door came in Scandanavia - especially in Sweden, but also in Norway and Denmark - and developed for at least three centuries. Some estimate that these ornaments have been carried out for 700 years, derived from several styles of Chinese string instruments called Guqin and Ruan . But the door of the door is not intended to play, but it just enjoyed it.

Made of various hardwoods, door harp is created in thin boxes of audio boards with one or more soundproof front. The shapes of the boxes range from the hearts, tears or ovals toround, square or rectangular. The more unusual the design is, the more valuable it will be like a work of art. These hinges are usually ended with varnish, lemon oil or bee. The construction can also be painted on their queues.

The number of chains on the door harp determines the complexity of the sound it makes. Clapper wooden balls are suspended from vertical chains of different lengths that are attached in a single row along the upper part of the door of the harp. Each vertical string allows its balls to descend to another horizontal chain. There is one ball on the horizontal chain, from at least three to a dozen or more notes, so when the ball is reflected, they produce fighting chords of random music.

Some use the tuning key to tighten the endpoints or the Zithere pegs on their door harp. In this way, create a perfectly tuned set of notes. Strings are usually made of wire butwhich are produced by a traditional way with knitted silk.

Some people hang their door on the outside of the door to greet visitors or on the wall somewhere near the open window. However, it is traditional to hang them inside the front door, so that the music sounds whenever it comes or leaves. Like houses, many shops in Sweden will have a door harp that will alert the merchant of the presence of a new customer.
