What is dromedary?

Dromedary or Arabic camel is a type of sand brown on a caramel colored camel found in North Africa and Western Asia. In these areas, it is extensively used as an animal of the burden because it is well adapted to harsh conditions and long travel.

Dromedary have one hump, while the other type of camel, Bactrian Camel, has two. Bactrians are also slightly smaller and more adapted to extremely cold weather. Dromedary is also used as work or wrapping animals in other parts of the world and many zoo also maintain them. The camels were domesticated somewhere between 4,000 and 1,500 BCE and are completely disappeared in the wild. The ferrous population of the Dromedary camel can roam Australia, but these camels are not technically wild because they are leaks from a captured population. In addition to being a pack animal, it was historically used as a source of food and so camels are bred for races, especially in the Middle East.

Some unique adaptations cause Dromedary Camel to be very persistent and can survive in extreme conditions. The first is the famous Hrb camel, which is actually filled with a fat reserve, not water. Camels can use HRB for nutrition during starvation periods and can survive up to four days without food or water. Unlike other animals, dromedary can also survive an extreme increase in body temperature, allowing it to save water because it does not have to sweat to cool down.

Dromedary algae are very long to protect the eyes of the animal from wind and dust. In addition, dromedars can close their nostrils during dust storms so that sand and dirt do not enter the lungs. Leather cushions on their knees and stomach allow them to kneel and lie on hot sand, while their wide two toed legs behave almost like snow shoes on slippery sands of the desert.

Like most other ungulates is dromedary legDrizer with leather lips adapted to consumption of thorny branches and other enemy plants. The animal pregnancy period has been a little more than one year and young camels live with mothers about a year before they become a fully independent. The unique strengths of Dromedary have made it an important cultural and economic supplement to many societies, and camels continue to be used extensively throughout North Africa and the Middle East. Unlike the general beliefs, dromedary is in fact a very friendly and helpful animal and will not spit on people to express hostility, even if camels spit during conflicts over food.
