What is Farthingale?

Farthingale is a device used to add structure and shape to a skirt. Farthingale was a popular European manner in the 15th and 16th centuries and was responsible for the silhouette who joined the Tudor's period in England. Numerous examples can be observed in works of art from this period in European history and customers around the world have created a number of reproductions for use in games, historical reenacts and other events. The Spanish Farthingale was originally made of reeds, which was created in the hoops sewn into outer clothing, which makes the structure clearly visible. Over time, the hoops began to be worn on underwear, so the outer skirt was smooth and created a distinctive silhouette in the shape of a cone. Style traveled to France and later to England with Catherine of Aragon.Styl known as Englishman or Great Farthingale.
