What is a field guide?
Field manual is a type of reference book to be transmitted in the field to help identify plants and animals. Since they are to be transmitted outside, they are generally relatively small books and not big Tomes that would be more comfortable in the home or library. They often use classification and identification systems called keys that can be used by observing the exact identity of a particular plant or animal. Field guide can also be designed to identify other naturally occurring objects such as gems or other minerals and artificial objects such as ships, cars, coins or antiques.
