What is the French garden?
The French garden is a very specific style of a formal garden. Many people think of the French gardens when they hear the words "formal garden", while Versailles are a remarkable example. French gardens are most classic in landscapes of large formal structures such as museums, private settlements, etc., although one could also install such a garden in front of a modest structure.
Although this style is called "French", it was actually created in Italy. French visitors were hit by the style of Italian formal gardens and decided to bring style back home and develop their own version of a formal garden with unique French features. Like all formal gardens, the French garden is characterized by a very accurate formal arrangement. Symmetry and order are highly valued, with all hedges, lawns, trees, plants and shrubs carefully maintained.. The French garden attracts the eye to the building and integrates the building into the landscape with its very geometric style. These gardens also have numerous reflecting pools, fountains and ponds, with gravel and lawn paths that allow people to navigate in the garden. Cropped evergreens are a common feature in French gardens, bordering and flower beds.
Many French gardens are also dotted with small decorative buildings that can range from the open air for summer entertainment to fully closed structures. Historically, each structure had a very specific purpose, while these buildings were used to play board games, serve tea, listening to music, painting and involvement in other recreations in the garden. Such buildings were also used by a royal rank for a formal audience with guests.
Maintaining atradic French garden usually requires a lot of work. The garden needsContinuous cutting, pruning, weeds and other maintenance tasks, because they must always look immaculate. New flowers are constantly planted to replace worn and tired plants, and the design of the garden is constantly refined with small and fine details.
In the 18th century, the style of the French garden began to decrease in favor of more natural and wild -looking gardens, probably partly partly due to hard maintenance. However, the French garden will still last in many corners of the world, and the devoted gardeners will be very high, because the French garden can take decades to reach its full potential.
