What is a gambel roof?

The gambrel roof is a double -sided roof with a central ridge. Each side has two slope surfaces. The upper surface is shorter and has a gentle slope of about 30 degrees, while the lower surface is longer and has a sharper slope of about 60 degrees. Gambrel roof cutlands are made with shorter pieces of timber connected, rather than very long pieces of lumber needed for roofs such as frame A.

The Gambrel roof advantage is that it provides a surface that is very resistant to weather damage. At the same time, the gambrrel roof provides a large amount of interior space. Because the weight of the roof is supported by trusses that direct the voltage to the outer walls of the building, the inner walls or the columns carrying the weight are not unnecessary.

The name for the Gambrel roof can come for the middle English word gambril that referred to a "connected or crooked stick" and could also be written as a gamrel or gameral. In the 17th century, the word gambrrel was ever usedA hood for horse holes, joint in the back leg of the animal that gives the leg its crooked look.

Sometimes the roof was extended to the considerable end of the building and at each end it formed a protected area under the overhang.
