What is Garron?

The name "Garron" or Garran usually concerns a particular type of Highland pony, mainly kept on the mainland of the UK. These ponies are often larger than their island counterparts, increasingly smaller and generally more economical than full -size horses, such as Clydesdale. Garrons are used for many purposes and farmers and hunters are largely used for their compact strength and the ability to navigate steep, rocky areas. A typical Highland pony, which usually comes from the Highlands area in northern Scotland, has not always been strong enough to pull a large number of crops or machines. It is proposed that farmers may decide to connect ponies with larger Arabic and possibly Clydesdale Horses. Garron can measure approximately 13.2 to 14.2 hands. As size and BROW, this new type of pony was often able to carry an impressive burden, from the game caught by lumber hunter from cleaned forests.
