What is Geta?

and Geta is a traditional Japanese tango sandal that wears both women and men. There are many variations on the Geta sandal - however, the classic get consists of a wooden base with two risers to the lower part and a padded belt attached to the base in three places. Geta can be worn with traditional Japanese clothing or informal western style clothing.

There are three basic parts for Geta. The wooden base is called "Dai", which means "stand". Price on the Dai sole is called "ha", which means "teeth". The strap is called "Hanao", which means "strap" or "strap".

Geta is usually carved from a single block of wood that includes both DAI and ha. Three holes are drilled to the DAI for attaching Hanao: one at the front and two at the back. Traditional wood for Geta is Kiri, light hard wood Paulownia indigenous to Southeast Asia. Wood may be unfinished or can be colored or lacquer. A layer of rubber or vinyl can be attached to the soles to protect the wood from the drunkBímmi.

Hanao is traditionally made of padded cotton or silk fabric, which is often printed by Japanese style patterns. Hanao can also be made of leather or vinyl. The outer material is sewn into the tube and filled with a thick cord made of cannabis, cotton or synthetic materials. The Hanao cords are attached to the wooden DAI by passing the holes and securing them on the underside by special nodes. Hanao straps are worn between the first and the second fingers.

Geta is very different in shape and size. Dai can be square or rounded in the corners. Teeth can be very high, especially for wearing in wet or snowy weather. Some geta have a large, only V -shaped, some modern patterns have strong, shaped soles instead of teeth.

Geta is traditionally worn by a sneformal cotton robe called "Yukata" and should not be confused with a more formal zoriwith kimon. According to tradition, they are also worn by a newcomer Sumo Wrestlers and Geisha in training. Geta makes a clapping sound on a hard walking surface, a noise that many consider nostalgic. Wooden sushi boards with risers are also called Geta because of their similarity to sandals.
