Japanese Mountain, Berberis Thunbergii, is an ornamental plant in Barberry or berberidaceae , family. The plant has a sharp thorn under each cluster of leaves, so it is ideal as a barrier plant. The shrub, also known as Thunberg's Barberry or Red Barberry, is often grown as a hedge or on the islands of parking. Several different cultivars were made, including the red chief, a red column and a pink glow. In many places, this Barberry has become an invasive weed and a competition of native vegetation. The plant blooms in spring and produces small yellow flowers, which cause formation on 1/3 inches (1 cm) elliptical or round red fruit, each containing one seed. The fruit remains on the plant and attracts birds. The stalks of this shrub are reddish and the leaves can be green or purple and turn red in autumn. Part of the attraction of cultivation Barberry is autumn and winter color provided by its red leaves, stems and fruit. Can tolerate a wide range of land typesAnd it has a slight tolerance to dry. However, the plant has low tolerance for salt. Japanese Barberry can grow in warm climate, such as Florida, and northern climate such as New Scotland in Canada. Deer doesn't eat.

Japanese Barberry was promoted as an alternative to the common Barberry or Berberis vulgaris . This plant serves as a host for a part of the life cycle of devastating pathogen known as the rust of the wheat tribe. It served as a tank to spread a deadly sponge on wheat crops.

During the 20th century. The thrust of wheat cannot play without Barberry, so the elimination of the shrub kept the pathogen at bay. In the US, it is not alive on Japanese Barberry with wheat stems. Canadian scientists have found that some varieties of this Barberry milked the sponge and is an illegal growth of the shrub in Canada.

big probThe Barberry Japanese is that it tends to spread to the areas of local plants and establish themselves as a large thicket. It can condemn and shield the original plants and change the level of pH and nitrogen in the soil, reducing the amount of habitat available to local wild game. This is a special problem in the woods. Birds spread this shrub by eating fruit and then distracting the seeds. Also branches that come into contact with the ground can roots and create new plants. This leaf can therefore spread and create giant thickets.

Japanese list can be controlled by hand by pulling young plants. It is also sensitive to several herbicides. Beine one of the first shrubs to produce leaves in the spring is easily seen. Cherce can therefore be specifically treated with herbicide, so there is only minimal damage to the surrounding native plants. In areas of susceptible fires, it is assumed that it is easy to control because it seems to be killed by fire.

This shrub contains alkaloid berberin. Compound containing duSík was used in traditional drugs. Several demands are issued for its therapeutic use, but they remain unfounded.
