What is Kerria?
Kerria is a type of deciduous shrubs from the family rosaceae . Named after botanist William Kerr, they are popular ornamental plants that come from Japan, Korea and China. In Japan, where they are known as Yamabuki , these garden plants were immortalized in many traditional paintings and poems. The plant is also known as yellow Japan from below because of its distinctive yellow flowers. Rod Kerria includes only one species, the only flowering Kerria japonica , but cultivars as a double flowering pleniflora, the only flowered Honshu and Golden Guinea and white flowered albums are also available.
These shrubs can normally grow up to eight feet (2.4 m) and have bright green stalks with arcs, winding branches. Simple leaves are 1.6 to 2.8 inches (4 to 7 cm) long, they are alternately placed and are in the shape of lance of serrated edges. In the autumn they fall away and the stems and branches change the bright YV winter. Even after all the leaves have been discarded, the shrub maintains a distinctive and ATa rifle look. It can be used individually as a separate landscape or many of these shrubs can be planted closely together to form a hedge.
Kerria shrubs generally produce flowers throughout the year and flowers, whether they are the only or double varieties, they can take several weeks. Individual variety has five petals and looks like wild roses, but double flowered cultivars often resemble chrysanthemums. Flowers eventually produce small, brown and only seeded fruit; Unlike flowers, the fruit of Kerria is quite inconspicuous. New plants can be promoted by seeds or new suction cups that the plant sends.

It is also possible to grow these plants in areas full of sun, but too much sun can disappear or whiten flowers, shorten their lifetime and cause the stem to shrink.Overall, the Kerria plant is resistant and relatively easy to maintain. It does not require muchfertilization and will be well enough if it remains on its own devices. It may sometimes require pruning to get rid of dead branches and support better growth; Some gardeners like to cut the plant directly to the ground. Pruning should be preferably done after the plant ends in flowering in the spring.
