What is Koen?
2 AHARON was the first high priest or kohn gadol . All descendants of men are also considered to be cohrels or priests .
The word priest in this context is a bit different than the one in the Christian context. Here the priest should refer to a person who performs religious actions or procedures. This definition is in some respects the same as the Christian version, but Koen is not the kind of religious and spiritual leader, the Christian priest. This leading role is mainly the action of rabbi in Judaism. Koen is responsible for ceremonial activities such as the management of services and victims. After the second temple in Israel was destroyed, which was in the Jewish calendar around 586 BCE or 3174 hours, the role of Kohen decreased and the rabbi took responsibility for the ceremony.
Although we can carelessly connect the rabbi to be equivalent to a pastor or a priest in Christianity, it is not even accurate. Rabbi In fact means a teacher. To become a rabbi, one had to study deeply. Some sects in Judaism allow women to be rabbis, others will save this role only for men. Regardless of the deep knowledge of Rabbi, its community task is to learn by Torah and Talmud. The rabbi can also be granted the power to judge. While the rabbi can lead spiritual services, especially if Koen is not available, the priority is given by Kohen.
Kohanim has a higher level of cleanliness and therefore Torah gives them special rules to protect their ritual purity. For example, in general, Koen does not have to come into contact with dead bodies unless the deceased is his father, mother, brother, unjustified sister, child or wife. Koen is also forbidden to marry a divorced woman or conversion.
In honor of their services to the community in biblical times, Kohim was given priority in different ways. For example, they were given different gifts depending on the circumstances. These gifts included things like a basketER animals, bread and peace offers.
In modern times, Jew Kohen is if he comes from the first priest Aaron, who was the brother of Moses. Having a surname Cohen or Kohen or any of its derivatives is not proof that one is in this sense Kohen. A study conducted in 1997 showed that Kohranim shares some common characteristics in their chromosomes that indicate but do not prove that they share some common ancestors.
Today, Kohanim can still have privileges and duties, especially in Orthodox and conservative Jewish communities. They can recite priestly blessings or lead a certain reading of a zing.
