What is Lent Roses?

Lentene Rose is a herbal permanent plant that is a member of the Helleborus family. It is also known as Helleborus orientalis and usually as Hellebores. Although this plant is known as "rose", it does not belong to the Rose family. The name Lenten Rose was created because flowers in the beginning of spring, in the Lent. Helleborus Orientalis is a parent of many types of hybrids.

These plants come from Europe. They are located in Spain, Portugal, Central Europe and Turkey. They do not commonly occur in the gardens, but grow well in elevated beds and on the slopes as a ground cover.

Lentene roses are easy to care because they are freezing and do not require much maintenance. They should be planted on rich soil early in the spring and should not be moved to another place after they start to bloom. Composting soil should be added and shadow should be provided for plants. The soil can be damp and should have good drainage, but these plants adapt to dry soil.

This plant and various other Hellebores are toxic and, after extensive handling, caused skin irritation in humans. Gardeners should therefore always wear gloves and long -sleeved shirt when handling the plant. These plants are also known to be deer-resistant.
