What is the mess?
The mess is a formal military uniform. It is generally worn for events of white or black ties where civilian men would usually dress in a tuxedo. The tradition of messy dresses begins with the British Army, whose members began to wear them on balls and formal events in 1845 as an alternative to full clothing of the officer worn at that time. At the beginning of the 20th century, the tradition was adopted by all branches of the British Army, the United States Army and all the nations of the community. Most other nations around the world, however, did not accept this habit and use standard uniforms or uniforms to participate in formal actions.
regulations regarding specific messy dresses differ with every nation and industry of services. Different units in this military branch can have their own variations on standard dresses. For example, depending on the regiment, the UK army officers could wear a jacket with only the upper ass attached as "cavalry", or could be worn with noErmine bow tie. Many services also allow the weather variation and on standard dresses.
Color schemes of jackets, collar, cuffs, flaps and vests could differ to determine the regiment or unit. British jackets can be red, blue or green, depending on the branch and unit. Scottish regiments can include tartan in uniform and may also have clothes that include kilometers. American dresses on the other hand offer much less diversity and uniforms are most often blue.
Modern dresses for male staff tend to resemble tuxedo designs with military flourishing. Passport jackets may include erasets, embroidered cuffs or cords to display rank. The flaps may not be present. Cummerbunds or vests are commonly used, and black or white bonds are often integrated, depeding for the event. Dress is usually worn, although some uniforms require cavalry. U some unIxiforms are included in the cloaks or caps as outerwear.
female uniforms tend to be very similar to male messy dresses, with a standard jacket. Instead of pants, however, female members of services usually wear long skirts. Gloves and handbags could also be used depending on the service branch.
In some military forces, a mess is reserved for officers. Other military organizations allow all staff to wear a formal uniform. Only officers without a committee can wear in the USA corps, while junior staff wearing a standard small uniform for formal functions.
