What is Pennywort?

Pennywort is a type of plant that is usually considered weed. It is classified as a perennial, which means that it returns every year and can be very difficult to control as soon as it is set. The leaves usually have a diameter of 1 inch (3 cm), round, glossy and dark green with combs. This can be found in most parts of North America, South America, Europe and Africa. This plant usually thrives in very wet conditions and is able to grow in water.

It is also possible to identify these plants with their white flowers. There are usually five to ten petals on a stem and the flowering period is either year -round or in warm weather depending on the type Pennywort and climate. The weed looks very similar to another type of plant called Dichondra, which is not related. The main difference between the two plants is the placement of the stem. Dichondra stems are connected to the sheet on the edge, while the Pennywort stems are connected in the center.

Pennywort is often used several types of post-engarm Herbicideat. Post-Engergent Herbicide is a herbicide that is used after the plant begins to grow. Herbicides containing glyphosate or atrazin chemicals are usually considered to be the most effective. People who do not want to use chemicals for their weed problems are available other options. Some people claim to have been successful using vinegar and table sugar on their lawns to remove Pennywort.

Acceptance of preventive measures against this plant before it becomes introduced, it can save a person's difficulty to try to get rid of it later. This weed is most common in weak soils with poor drainage. It is possible to reduce the amount of moisture present on the lawn by improving air circulation by means of aerator. These tools are usually easy to use and can be purchased or rented. Hand-Pulling Pennywort from root can also help prevent its spread but this method is usualE very time -consuming and demanding work.

Water Pennywort can also be difficult to control as soon as it starts to grow. This variety usually occurs in lakes, swamps, ponds or in any other area with slowly moving water. In some areas it is considered beneficial because it provides a habitat for aquatic invertebrates and is also occasionally used as an ornamental plant. People who want to eliminate this type Pennywort may be more difficult than to remove the diversity of the lawn. Herbicides are usually effective, but there may be a risk of killing fish and other water life along with Pennywort.
