What is portico?
The word portico is Italian for the porch. Porticus are covered, covered sidewalks usually held columns. Porticos comes from Greece, but the ancient Romans were also used. Italy is well known for its porticoups, but in countries such as the United States and England, there are variations of the design of covered veranda. Home owners often add Breezy Porticos to the front or back of their homes to add outdoor living space.
London, England's University College has leading portics. The building was designed by William Wilkins and J. P. Gandy Deering in 1827 in the Corinthian style of the Greek revival of architecture. Some American Greek revival houses can contain both rear and front portico in accordance with Grecian Amphonyle architecture.
