What is prequel?
Sometimes, when the film, playing, conceptual album or novel becomes exceptionally successful, the creator of this work creates a subsequent work known as continuation . The sequel usually rises where the original work ended, as in the case of Blockbuster Sci-Fi The Empire Strikes Back or the novel Scarlett , the sequel to Margaret Mitchell's gone with the wind . However, some authors decide to create a new work that begins before setting up the original movie, game or novel. The work that examines early lives of established characters is called prequel . An example of Prequel would be the 2008 Star Trek film, which examines the early history of the original characters from the TV series Star Trek . The prequel Batman Begins is also preceded by the successful franchise Batman Movie released years ago.
Prequel can be the only work created to explain the backward story of popular characters, or it can become the first in the new Prequels series. AcrossThe new film franchise Batman can create several sequels according to their own story arch, but all will be considered prequels to the original series, which represented Batman as an adult. The author sometimes creates a prequel after taking the original storyline to a logical conclusion. For example, the author JK Rowling may decide to write a harbinger for her series Harry Potter instead of taking the original characters to adulthood. Prequel would either explore the early lives of the main characters, or otherwise were set up a generation or two earlier and used the characters mentioned only briefly in the original series.
The term prequel is considered to be portmanteau or a new word, just like splashdown or cyberspace . Until recently, few authors or scenarios have produced a harbinger as part of a number of works. Quite often the original work would prove so popular that publishers or executives in the film studio would introduce a sequel from the originalcreators or new sets of writers for rent. These sequels may or may not be based on the original source materials, but include the characters and general setting of the original film or novel. Such a continuation can succeed or fail on the basis of their loyalty to the original work or other factors. However, Prequel often requires that the authorized writer has a solid understanding of mythology surrounding the original work and also the ability to create realistic younger versions of established characters.
