What is a razor?
The term Razorfish may apply to any of the five small species in the Centriscidae family. These fish, also known as shrimp, are divided into three genera: aeoliscus , Centriscus and Centriscops , although some are also occasionally placed in the MacRoPhosinae. Razorfish are usually small, slim and transparent, with a blade similar to abdomen and long snouts. Most varieties can be found at shallow depths of indo-pacific, while others occur in the deeper waters of the South Oceans. Most razor groups have almost transparent appearance, but along their sides are a thin, color stripe. They have flattened sides and on their underblocks with sharp edges. Fish are also covered by transparent, the fused arms plate ends with a long dorsal fins of the spine. This fish may vary depending on the habitat, but in general it is light silver with dark red or green-yellow stripe along the upper and lower body. Centriscops humerosus or striped BellowfisH is another known species. This group differs from striped shrimp to length and unusual hump, which is formed just behind the head. It also carries light orange or dusty yellow stripes.
behaviorally most razor species act in a similar way. One of their most famous habits is to swim heads down in a synchronized way. They also tend to hide in the backbone of sea hedgehogs as a means of self -preservation and gathering food. Larger fish are cautious that they are frozen sea hedgehog, so when it is endangered, Razorfish generally hides between the spines to protect themselves. Razorfish also hides in the spines to wedge in front of their own potential prey and jumped only when they are within reach of small invertebrates.
Although the razor is best in the ocean environment, it can also be kept in a domestic aquarium. These fish can be difficult to maintain but can surviveT in the aquarium with algae, live rock and lots of places where you can hide. They can be placed with similar species to PipeFish, but they will not be well with more aggressive fish such as Wrasses.
