What is a rock garden?

The rock garden is a garden that is designed around the rocks. Some rock gardens are installed in naturally rocky areas, they use natural landscapes rather than try to suppress. Others are built on one existing rock element, or gardeners can import rocks into their gardens for the construction of a rock garden. Rock Gardens is also known as Rockeries or Alpine Gardens and are particularly popular in regions where water availability is limited. Asian rock gardens are an important part of the tradition of aesthetics in Asian art, each rock and plant are carefully and thoughtfully placed and such gardens were often attached to monasteries and rich houses. In the 17th century, the rock garden reached Europe and European gardeners began to invent their own versions.

In the Japanese rock garden, sometimes also called Zen Garden, there are almost no growths at all. Instead, a wide range of rocks is used to create a carefully presented scene, while rockschanges in color, shape, composition and size. Traditional Zen gardens often change with seasons and may include isolated works of art and occasional plant, while rocks provide sharp contrast with the plant.

More often, rock gardens mix plants of tolerant drought with the arrangement of rocks of different colors, shapes and sizes. Plants can be arranged in any way and are usually selected to replenish rocks in the garden. For example, Blue Fieldstone can be highlighted with blue flowers. In general, plants are best in the rock garden if they have low water needs, because drainage in the rock garden tends to be very good, making it difficult to maintain wet plants.

Rock Gardens can be fresh, with rich fields of green mosse, thick shrubs and creeping vines, or can be sharper, with thin plants and succulents. There are many when designing a rock gardenThe directions and most rock gardens are designed to somehow complement the natural landscape. Often this involves creating hills and decreases in the landscape to show off the garden if such irregularities of terrain no longer exist.

For gardeners who do not work in a naturally rocky area, the organization of the rock garden requires a serious muscle. It pays to sit down and plan in advance, thinks about what the garden should look like and how it will agree to the architecture of the house. It is also strongly recommended to arrange delivery with a rock company that will also help place large rocks.
