What is spiritual?

The spiritual category is the category of Lidong, which was established in the United State in the more or less second half of the eighteenth century, 1740 at the turn of the century. Although there is a clergy subgroup called "White Ghosts", which include anthem with shape notes, songs of camps and folk anthem, most often the spiritual term is used to designate songs from the African-American community.

These songs were often referred to as "black clergy", mostly and initially "spiritual songs" that arose from the Christian worship of singers. It is used in worship, some have also become used as work songs, with a form of call and response to regulate work operations that had to be coordinated in time.

Specialized use of spiritual has arisen due to a repressive ban on spoken communication between slaves in many places and the needs that arose when underground railways grew and had to escape escapes. Under these conditions, the clergy has become used as coded messages, bearing not only its initial spiritual meaning, but as a secondary practical meaning. Links to obtaining "on board", "station" and "home", which means that the goal in a free state or Canada is abound. Songs like "The Gospel Train" and "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" are instances.

Harriet Tubman, a fled slave, who was the largest "conductor" of the underground railway or the shepherd of the slave to freedom, used spiritual as a signature song. If she had to leave a group of "passengers" to hide to extend from the road during the journey, she sang "go down, Moses" who referred to her reputation as "Moses of her people" to lead so many slaves to freedom because the Israelis led the Israelis about the of Egypt.

among the most famous clergy are as follows:

• "Sometimes I feel like a child without a mother,"
• "Have you been there when they crucified my master?"
• "Michael, Row The Boat Ashore,"
•"No one knows the trouble I have seen,"
• "Joshua fit the battle of Jerich," and
• "Wade in water."

All these and others can be heard, both in worship and in concert environments.
