What is the tunic?

The word tunic is almost a direct translation from the Latin word tunica and is an ancient clothing. It was first worn by the Byzantine Greeks, but they became the most associated with citizens and non-people in the Roman Empire. Yet in other countries that had little contact with Rome or Greece later, as well as Norwegian groups commonly called the Vikings, people wore simple tunics. Perhaps a simple structure and design is responsible for its spontaneous development in several parts of the world.

The first tunic style was really simple. It was a long clothing, usually a knee length and usually worn a hfris belt over the belt. Generally contained short sleeves. Roman citizens could wear Toga over their tunika and the Roman soldiers wore them under their armor. The garment had a part of an unswated part, the seams on the sleeve and the seams on the side. If you think of a potato bag with a slot that fits your head and holes on each to fit in weapons, you basically have clothing. Have to fight in northern regions EVropy with lots of snow would mean that soldiers require additional warmth. In addition, the seat of Rome had a period of colder weather, which would be clothing with sleeves more comfortable.

Anyone in Rome could wear a tunic, but colors and patterns could vary, showing a social status. It would be easy for a non -Roman citizen, made of perhaps harsh wool or laundry, and would probably be unsuccessful. Nezčan could not wear a tunic with toga because Togas was a sign of citizenship. There is a dispute over the colors worn by soldiers. Some suggest that they were red, or only highly evaluating soldiers wore a red tunic. For non -military citizen, they can be made in different colors or are discolored to soft white.

within the 5th to 8th centuries there are references to the Viking tunic. Members of the Society for Creative Anachronism will actually tell you exactly how hto produce if you plan to dress like a viking to attend their fantasy events. The Viking tunic could be worn unbound and is usually made of wool. Today and in the past it has become an important part of the priest's costume. Unlike Roman or Viking tuna, clothing is the length of the floor and there is no belt.

In this design you will also find many modern shirts, especially for women. A long tunic that hit about half, can be worn through leggings, stretching pants or jeans and having slots. Trends to mount the garment slightly better for the body led to a flattering style of the character, although many prefer looser for simple comfort. Related clothing is Caftan, which can be worn by women in parts of the Middle East and mostly worn women in the Western world. Caftan is considered a clothing in the west and can be the length of the floor with a simple construction.
