What is the Venetian window?

The Venetian window is a type of window designed in the style of Venetian architect Andrea Palladio, who lived and worked in the 16th century. This type of window consists of three windows, the central of which is larger than the other two and spilled with an arch. Since the design is often attributed to Palladius' work, these types of windows are also sometimes called Palladian Windows. Another name of these species of Windows is Serlian Windows, which comes from the writings of Sebastian Serlio, who live at the end of the 15th and at the beginning of the morning to the mid -16th century and wrote about design in a book with more volumes about architecture.

There is a variation in the Venetian window. In addition, because it is a design that has been used for many hundreds of years, it has been interpreted several times. In the basic design for the Venetian window there are two smaller windows that line the central window, a rectangular shape, without arches above. However, some design variants include arches on the tops of two smaller windows except an arch that is commonly used to the top of the central window.

Other variations in the design of the Venetian window relate to the size of windows and the shape of the arch. In some cases, the arches are relatively high and some are even directed at the top. In other cases, the central panel of the Venetian window can end with a very shallow arch. Variations in the arches of the central panel in the Venetian window also appear in two side panels.

Other variations have to do with the width of windows lining compared to the width of the central window. Sometimes the side windows are up to half the size as central windows. However, there are other cases where the side windows are relatively thin compared to the central window. They can be as narrow as one fifth or one-different width of central windows.

In the modern design and design of houses, the term "Venetian window" is sometimes used quite freely. It can be used to describe the three windows that are used to create a shoe window. CanAlso used to describe three windows that contain one central window but have no arches.
