What is yaupon?

and Yaupon is in the Holly evergreen family. This native of the southeastern United States reaches a height of maturity between 15 and 25 feet (4.6 and 7.6 meters), with an equally wide range. Yaupon Holly retains his dark green leaves throughout the year. Its leaves on average 0.5 inches (1.3 centimeters) in length and show serrated edges. Yaupon Holly also has an attractive plant in the landscape. It can tolerate drought and also thrive well in marshy areas. Yaupon can grow in the sun or shadow. It produces a rapidly growing and attractive hedge that offers privacy throughout the year. Some people cut the bottom of this Holly to emphasize interesting shapes created by many of her branches. It can be trained in a small tree shape or keep it as a shrub.

Yaupon is a sub -plant with a dense cover that provides habitat for wild animals. In spring, the white floweries produce small and not decorative. When flowers stop blooming, red berries appear and remain on the plant duringthe cold period.

These berries attract several bird species, including Robins, Bluebirds and Cedar Waxwings. Birds who feed on berries are largely responsible for its spread. These migration birds spread the berries in both directions and the pits inside the fruit are able to take root in different types of soil. Raccoon, Armadillos, squirrels and other wild animals also eat berries, but fruit is not suitable for human consumption.

Yaupon Holly is known as the scientific name Ilex vomitoria . This name is a sign of side effect to eat a plant on humans. Although there is no record of death or permanent harm, eating fresh leaves or berries causes vomiting in humans. Some Indian tribes have used this Effaect by the decoction of Yaupon and its use to clean the system. The leaves contain a large amount of caffeine and were also dried and then cooked to form tea that acts as stImulant and Oman.

Yaupon has shown anti -inflammatory properties that can inhibit colon cancer. Some believe that a gel made of this plant is beneficial as a local treatment of skin cancer type known as Lymphom T-Bulky. Due to the toxicity of the plant, it should never be used healing without leading a doctor.
