What is Abelia?
Abelia is a genus or group between 15 and 30 real species and hybrid varieties belonging to the honeysuckle family, caprifoliaceae . ABELIA species are permanent shrubs, which means that the plant has lived for more than two years. Flowers are available in different colors, including pink and white. The flowers usually measure between 1/2 inches (1 cm) and 2 inches (5 cm) in length, are shaped as a bell and a mold at the end of the stems and above the upper leaves in clusters of up to eight flowers. Most of Abelia varieties have a strong, pleasant smell. The length of the leaf varies according to the variety and most measures between 1/2 inches (1 cm) and 3 inches (8 cm). The leaves usually have an oval shape with a deep glossy green color. Some varieties are deciduous, common to the colder climate and abandon their leaves ultimately the growing season. Other varieties from warmer climate are evergreen and keep leaf throughout the winter.
