What is the Advent calendar?

The Advent Calendar is a special calendar that refers to the days during the Advent, the Holy Season celebrated by the Christian Church during December before Christmas. Over the years, the Advent calendar has become many forms and has branched into a secular society as a countdown of a Christmas calendar focused on children.

Although the Advent season begins closest to Sunday on November 30, most of the commercial Advent calendars begins on the first December. Traditionally, the Advent calendar has two levels, with days from 1 December to 24 December. Every day it is marked by the door to be opened. However, adaptation of the Advent calendar includes doors or pockets with different ways to mark the day. Commercial manufacturers have sold an Advent calendar in some or other form for many years. Although the traditional shape of the Advent calendar is a square level, many Advent calendars are shaped as houses, Christmas trees and other festive symbols. Being in the Advent calendar there are so many variations, there is one that suits almost every family.
