What is the ankus?
Sometimes referred to as an elephant Goad, Ankus is a simple tool that uses elephants in training and management. The anka body is characterized by a hook that we are normally made of bronze or steel. The hook is attached to the handle of two to three legs, which allows the coach to use the ankus to manage the elephant while remaining within easy reach.
While the exact origin of Ankus is discussed, the tool can be traced until the first years of the Hindu faith. Ankus or Bullhook is part of Astamangala Hinduism, a set of eight favorable objects that are considered necessary. Ankus images are also often associated with a number of deities within religion, with Ganesha one of the examples.
Ankus can be a very simple design, including nothing but a simple metal hook and handle that can be made of metal, ivory or wood. However, not all versions of ELEPHANT HOOK are strictly utilitarian. Many examples of ankus are quite decorated, especially those used during the religionEnské ceremonies and parades. They can be covered with jewelry coated with gold or silver and even engraved by passages of sacred text.
Modern version of the ankaus can also be designed with synthetic and natural products. The anka glass fiber version provides a slight alternative to heavier steel or bronze models and still manages to maintain great strength. Generally, plastic versions are used only for practical training and are not used in public appearances or religious ceremonies.
In addition to using in religious processes, anka is often used in the carnival industry as a tool for training and driving with elephants. As with models that are used in religious ceremonies of audiences, more decorative versions of ankes are often used by elephants trainer during real circus performances.
