What is Archerfish?
Archerfish is a type of fish from Asia and Australia, which kolbs on insects by shooting drops of water from the mouth. Its goal is surprisingly accurate and research has shown that it has complex capabilities of visual processing. There are only a few known species, all of which belong to the toxotidae family . Sometimes they are held like pets.
Archerfish, also called Spinner Fish, lives in many different environments in Southeast Asia, North Australia and India. They usually prefer salty water or brackish water, but sometimes they are inland inland in freshwater currents. Most species are relatively small and narrow and have black lines or spots that complement their silver or light brown color. In general, they are below 6 inches (15.2 cm), although it was known that several of them reached their leg (30.4 cm). Fish can hunt individually or in groups and usually attack insects sitting just above the water on leaves or blades of grass. Offensive fish shoots drops of water nAnd unsuspecting insects that fall into the water and are consumed. They can accurately predict where their prey landed and can jump out of the water to swallow insects.
As hunters, these fish are surprisingly accurate and can hit targets of up to 3 feet (91 centimeters) above the water surface. Their grooved mouth and strong jaw muscles can project water stream of 10 feet. Some species are able to shoot up to seven times if their first shot was not on the brand.
Research has shown that this type of fish has very advanced skills in terms of vision. One study has found that they have the ability to be known as an object orientation to an object, which means they could easily see Objects when they had a different orientation than the background. This ability was previously considered exclusive to mammals. Another group of scientists was able to train Archerfish to hit moving goals. It is amazing that some of the fish have been able to learn this abilitySimply by watching other fish that have been trained.
There are fewer than ten known Archerfish species that are grouped into the toxotidae family. Some such as striped Archerfish ( Jaculatrix ) and spotted Archerfish ( toxotes chatare ) are caught and consumed by people. One species discovered in 2004, toxotes kimberleyensis or Kimberley Archerfish, lives exclusively in freshwater environments in Australia.
Archerfish are sometimes bred as pets, but their unique feed habits can take care of them properly. They are all -powerful, so they can be fed by living insects or dried seaweed. In the tanks, it is generally recommended to group the Self -Belic Fish together, because larger fish can choose or even eat smaller.
