What is the lily?

Arum Lily or Zantedeschia aethiopica, commonly called Calla Lily, is a large decorative flowering plant that is permanent in a mild or hot climate. This is sometimes referred to as the scientific name of Calla aethiopica. Despite its misleading name, Arum Lily is not a real lily and is not one of the genus Arum. In addition, his common nickname devotes that Arum Lily is a different species except the real Calla Lily, Calla Palustris. Spathe is usually white with a yellow tinge. Some cultivars have other color combinations.

This plant prefers full sun, but will be well held in an area with a partial midday shadow. Some varieties of the Arum lily are resistant to the hardness of the USDA 6 plant. For gardeners in colder areas, it is best to bring Arum Lily inside the winter.

ARUM lilies usually benefit from soil or marshy conditions. Some species could even be done well in shallow stOjaté water. Arum lily, known as one of the larger flowering plants, can sometimes grow to 2-4 feet (61-122 cm) high at maturity.

The

family to which these plants belonged to was named in honor of the Italian botanical professor Giovanni Zantedeschia. He is attributed to the initial discovery of flowering specimens in South Africa. Several specific cultivars of this decorative plant include Aztec gold, wedding reddish, lavender Petite, Apple Court, Harvest Moon and Black Magic.

6 ARUM Lily can also cause a lower skin reaction in some sensitive individuals when any part of the plant is processed with bare hands. For this reason, experts recommend that the gardeners wear gloves in the care of Arum Lily. This negative reaction is caused by calcium oxalate found in the plant.

zantedeschia aethiopica is one of several flowering plants that are referred to as velicon lilies. Other Easter lilies include Lilium Longiflorum, Zephyranthes Atamasco and Lilium Candidum. Arum Lily was listed in a number of famous paintings, including several works of Mexican wall artists Diego Rivera.
